Ubonrat Dam’s water discharge to reach 54 million cubic metres per day

The committee for the management of water in Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Roi-et and Yasothon provinces have made a resolution to discharge more water from the Ubonrat Dam in Khon Kaen as the water flowing into the dam has reached 100 million cubic metres per day.

Somsak Jangtrakul

Somsak Jangtrakul, the Khon Kaen governor, said the action is necessary to maintain the strength of the dam.

In a meeting on Saturday (Oct 14), the committee agreed that from 12 am on Oct 14 the dam will release water at the rate of 42 mln cu/m per day.

The water discharge will go up to 46 mln cu/m per day from 6 am on Oct 15; 50 mln cu/m per day from Oct 16; and 54 mln cu/m per day from Oct 17.  The discharge will remain at 54 mln cu/m per day until the situation has improved.

Mr Somsak said the people will be informed of the committee’s decision.
