Two injured from an explosion in front of National Theatre

Two people were slight injured in an explosion in front of the National Theatre near Sanam Luang Monday night.

The two victims were identified as Ms Chanpen Wutthi-aekpaiboon and Ms Kanchana Booncheep. Both sustained minor injuries on their arms and were given first aid treatment at a field hospital tent of the army at Sanam Luang.

The explosion took place at about 8.20 pm at a garbage bin in front of the National Theatre. Shortly afterward, a team of explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) was rushed to the scene to investigate.

It was still not known whether the explosion was caused by a bomb or from other devices.

Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn who went to the scene said that he suspected the explosion did not come from a bomb or a giant firecracker, but came from the explosion of high-pressure pipe.
