US President Donald Trump declared today that the US and North Korea are prepared “to start a new history” after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un gave his “unwavering commitment” to work towards denuclearisation during their historic summit in Singapore.
Speaking at a lengthy press conference after the summit, President Trump also showered Kim with praises and said their first meeting developed a “special bond” between them and expressed confidence that the North Korean leader was serious in bringing about changes to his country.
“We both want to do something. We both are going to do something. And we have developed a very special bond,” Trump said at the conclusion of the landmark summit. “People are going to be very impressed. People are going to be very happy,” Trump said.
Trump, the first sitting American president to meet with a North Korean leader, said during their talks, Kim “reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”
He said US and North Korea are “prepared to start a new history and write a new chapter between our nations”, he added.
