Troops deployed to help southern flood victims

The three armed forces have deployed men and equipment to flood-ravaged southern provinces to help flood victims, defence spokesman Lt-Gen Kongcheep Tantravanich said on Sunday.

He said that Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan was concerned with the flood situation in southern provinces and instructed the three armed forces to keep abreast with weather conditions and to carry out relief operations to help flood victims.

He disclosed that troops had been distributing food and water, evacuating the elderly and children to safety, deploying food and water trucks to prepare fresh food and provide drinking water to flood victims and to repair damaged houses, among others.

The spokesman assured that troops would remain in the flooded provinces until the situation returns to normal and the completion of rehabilitation operations to restore normal life.
