Three rangers shot dead in South

Three army-trained rangers were killed and another seriously wounded in an attack by southern insurgents in Yarang district of Pattani.

Police said the incident happened before noon today when six rangers were helping locals in Village Group 2 of Tambon Yamai in Yarang district to repair house roofs  when 6-7 heavily armed insurgents came in aboard a pickup truck.

Soon as they arrived, they opened fire at the rangers who were working with the locals. The rangers returned fire before they were killed and wounded in a 10-minute fighting.

The insurgents took away two assault rifles of the rangers before escaping.

Immediately after the attack, all checkpoints in Pattani were alerted to watch for the black colored Toyota Vigo pickup truck which the insurgents used in the escape.
