Three arrested for murder of TAO chairman

Songkhla police have arrested three of the four suspects in the murder of Udom Khunsrivorakhan, chairman of Khao Phra tambon administration organisation (TAO) in Songkhla’s Rattaphum district.

Udom was shot to death in a coffee shop on Yontrakan Kamthorn road in Rattaphum district on Nov 10. Warrants were issued for the arrests of four suspects.

Pol Lt Gen Ronnasin Phusara, the Provincial Police Region 9 commissioner, said three suspects have been arrested. They are Kanittha Phetsuk, former deputy chairman of Khao Phra TAO, the suspected mastermind; and two alleged members of a team of hired gunmen, Phisan Sukkan and Pol Cpl Nawongyos Kanchanakaew, of Tanyong police station in Muang district of Narathiwat.

Wanchai Sukkan, another member of the team and Phisan’s father, was still at large.

Of the three arrested, only Pol Cpl Nawongyos confessed to involving in the murder of the TAO chairman. He was the only one who was taken to perform a re-enactment of crime on Monday (Dec 18).

Police believe Kanittha’s being dismissed from the post of deputy TAO chairman was the motive of the murder because in 2012 Udom and Kanittha had a conflict over the administration of the TAO. Moreover, Kanittha’s wife was also terminated as a contracted schoolteacher.
