Thailand to opt out of single-man takraw competition in Sea Games

Thailand has decided to not send a single-man takraw team to the 29th Sea Games in Malaysia as requested by Malaysia.

Mr Thawat Kumutpongpanich, manager of the Thai national takraw teams, said on Tuesday that the Malaysian side wanted to compete in the final match with teams from the other countries except Thailand.

He said he had consulted with Mr Boonchai Lorpipat, vice president of the National Takraw Association, about Malaysian request and agreed not to compete in the single-man takraw category.

However, he said that the country would field players to compete in three categories – four-member takraw, team sepak takraw and single-member takraw.

Mr Thawat is confident that Thailand’s four-member takraw team would be the champion because the players are experienced and used to win the beach takraw competition.
