Thailand believes its corruption ranking in international communities will improve this year after the country has shown strong determination to curb and suppress corruption by setting a four-year national stratagy to tackle the problem drastically.

This was voiced by a member of the powerful National Anti- Corruption Commission (NACC) today while the graft buster is going to hold an exhibition to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9.

Mrs Suwanna Suwanjuta, a member of the 9-member NACC, said of the country’s ranking as the Transparency International is scheduled to release corruption perception index (CPI) at the end of this month.

She was hopeful of Thailand’s improvement in CPI after the governnent has shown enthusiasm by setting a four-year strategic plan from 2017-2021 to tackle corruption, while the NACC aims to achieve 50% scores from previous rating.

Last year Thailand scored 35 from a scale 0-100 points earning it the 76th least corrupt country out of 168.

The improved ranking was also laid on confidence that the country will have election next year, she said.

She said the NACC will hold exhibition to mark the International Anti Corruption Day at Impact Muang Thong Thani.

At the exhibition Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will declare his government’s strong determination in ridding corruption under the theme “Zero Tolerance” on corruption suppression.

The prime minister will also announce the government’s anti corruption policy in its drive to make Thailand a clean country, she said.

Meanwhile the Anti Corruption Organisation of Thailand says its latest survey showed 86% of people interviewed have expressed their willingness to have participation in prevention of corruption.

Secretary-general of the organisation Mr Mana Nimitmongkol said the constitution has tasked the government to promote public participation in anti corruption drive, to educate the people how to help and also to require government officials to declare their assets.

Thus will help to facilitate the people in helping the state to resolve the problems.
