Thai shuttler Nitchaon wins World Grand Prix title in Germany

Thailand’s woman shuttler Nitchaon Jindapol finally beat her Malaysian foe Zhang Beiwen in the Bitburder Badminton Open 2017 finals in Saarbrucken on Sunday (Nov 5).

Nitchaon, the world’s No 15, defeated the world’s No 12 Zhang of Malaysia 21-17, 15-21, 21-19 to return to her second World Grand Prix Gold title in four years.

The Thai shuttler was engaged in a neck-and-neck duel with her old foe before she narrowly won in 69 minutes with a repertoire of shots.

The 26-year-old Nitchaon from Phuket won her first World Grand Prix title here in 2013.

Last year she also reached the final but lost to He Bingjiao of China 11-21 18-21.

Nitchaon played Zhang Beiwen four times in the past but the Malaysian player led her 3-1 in their lifetime record.

Yesterday, Thailand’s women doubles also won the Japanese shuttlers in the final.

Second seeded Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai beat Japanese Akane Araki and Aoi Matsuda 21-19 21-6.
