Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum knocked out of Australian Open by Croatia’s Petra Martic in the women’s singles third round today (Jan 19).

World number 81 Martic defeated Luksika 6-3, 3-6, and 7-5 in the round of 32 match, which lasted two hours and 10 minutes amid fierce heat in Melbourne.

The victory was the best birthday gift for Martic, who turns 27 today.

“She raised her game and whenever you give her pace on the ball she hits winners all over the place,” said Martic.

The 124th-ranked Luksika reached Australian Open third round for the first time after beating Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the 2nd round on Wednesday (Jan 17).
