Thai students bagged home 49 medals from India International Mathematics Competition held in Lucknow from July 25-31.
The 10 Thai teams comprising 34 students from 24 schools nationwide grabbed 11 gold, 16 silver, 15 bronze, and seven honourary medals they won in individual, team, group, overall and special categories.
The winning of 49 medals made Thailand to grab second position at the mathematical Olympiad for high school students this year. Singapore came top on the list of the awards.
The director of the Bureau of Educational Innovation Development at the office of the Basic Education Commission Mrs Nijwadee Charienkiatbovorn said Thailand sent 10 teams from 24 schools to compete in the India International Mathematics Competition : InIMC 2017.
She said the competition saw 135 teams comprising 540 students from 26 countries taking part.
They include Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, South Africa, Simbebwe, Sri Lanka, Khazakstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Vietnaman and Thailand.
She said the winning by Thai students was a satisfactory achievement which will serve as a driving force for the commission to promote them to the world’s top position in the mathematical Olympiad for high school students.
The Thai student teams returned to Suvarnabhumi international airport last night amid warm welcome by their parents, friends and teachers.
