Suspected hospital bomber detained for another 12 days

Suspected hospital bomber Wattana Poommaret was on Thursday escorted by police to the Ratchadapisek Criminal Court to have his detention period extended for the first time for another 12 days.

Pol Gen Srivara Rangsibhrahmanakul, the national deputy police chief, were convinced that Wattana did not act alone for a series of seven bombing incidents in Bangkok dating back to 2007, including the latest bomb explosion at Phra Mongkutklao hospital last month in which over 20 mostly retirees were injured, two of them in serious condition.

He said that police believed more people were involved and police had been working very hard to find out the other accomplices who might be involved in the bombing incidents.

As for the case against Wattana, Pol Gen Srivara said the case was about 70 percent completed, leaving behind some additional evidences, such as forensic evidences, which are being collected.

On Wednesday, the suspect was taken to a number of locations for re-enactment of the crime. The locations include the parking lot of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the store which sells flowered vase, his girlfriend’s condominium, the bus stop at Soi Charunsanitwong 97, Ban More, and Government Lottery Office among others.
