Supreme Court picks Chatchai as new election commissioner

The Assembly of the Supreme Court judges has voted to select Mr Chatchai Chanpraisri to be a member of the 7-member Election Commission.

Supreme Court President Cheep Jullamon disclosed yesterday (Nov 17) that Mr Chatchai who is a chief judge in the Supreme Court was selected as a member of the Election Commission by the assembly of 176 judges.

He said Mr Chatchai received more than half of the votes and therefore was selected to be an EC member.

According to the law governing the Election Commission, five of the seven-member commission come from the selection from the qualified applicants and two others are picked by the Assembly of the Supreme Court judges.

However, Mr Chatchai was only candidate who are qualified for the position, therefore, the Supreme Court has to begin the selection procedure again to invite candidates for the remaining position.
