Southern militant shot dead in shootout with rangers in Pattani 

A suspected southern militant was shot dead in a predawn clash with army rangers in Kapor district of Pattani on Wednesday.

The  suspect was identified as Sulaiman Muhammad who was  wanted by the Narathiwat Provincial Court in an unrest case in the Deep South.

According to police, a team of army rangers encircled a house in Tambon Karubee after receiving a tipoff that a wanted militant was hiding inside.

Authorities then ordered all occupants in the house to come out and stormed in to search.

But as the rangers entered the house, gunshots were fired.

After a brief shooting, the militant was shot dead

Seized inside the house was a loaded carbine submachine gun.

Security officials believed Sulaiman might have returned to the village to create unrest.
