Ratchanok beats world’s No 1 Tai Tzu-ying in straight sets

Ratchanok Intanon showed her top-form performance by beating the world’s No 1 player from Taiwan, Tai Tzu Ying in two straight sets at the BWF World Superseries in Dubai on Thursday (Dec 14).

Ratchanok defeated her Taiwanese rival 21-18 and 21-17 to clinch a place in the semi-final round.

In the All England Open final last March, Tai defeated Ratchanok.

This was the second victory for Ratchanok who in her opening Group B match overcame the world’s fifth-ranked South Korean Sung Ji-Hyun 21-19 and 21-16 in just 47 minutes.

Ratchanok’s next match of the Group on Friday (Dec 15) will be against Chen Yufei, a rising star from China whom Ratchanok has never defeated in their three previous encounters.

Chen Yufei also beat South Korean Sung Ji-Hyun in two straight sets, 21-16 and 21-13.

This will prove to be a tough fight for Ratchanok.

The champion of this tournament will be awarded a US$ 80,000 cheque or about 2.6 million baht.
