Putin to pay state visit to Vietnam

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will pay a state-level visit to Viet Nam on November 12 at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang, the Foreign Ministry has announced.

Vietnam and Russia established a strategic partnership in 2001 and upgraded the relationship to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.

In another development, two joint communiques were signed at the United Nations on Friday, pledging stronger ties between Vietnam and Caribbean nations.

The signatories included Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN Le Hoai Trung, Saint Kitts and Nevis Federation Ambassador Delano Frank, and the Ambassador from the Commonwealth of Dominica, Vince Henderson.

The agreement is the latest effort by Vietnam to expand its relationship with Caribbean countries and those in Latin America.

The document aims to increase bilateral relations and build co-operation with the two Caribbean nations, in line with the Government’s foreign policy objectives.
