The government yesterday (Dec 5) officially launched the Pracharat market scheme to stimulate local economies and to serve as new marketing channels for small local business operators to sell their products.
More than 6,500 Pracharat markets are opened yesterday with provincial governors, chief district officers and local administrators chairing the opening ceremonies in their respective areas across the country.
In Bangkok, Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda presided over the opening of the Pracharat market scheme at Talad Klong Phadung Krungkasem near the Government House.
The government intends to make Talad Klong Phadung Krungkasem as a model Pracharat market for other provinces to follow suit.Under the Pracharat market scheme, there will be nine themes of markets such as green market and Otop market, depending different locations and identify of each locality.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, more than 122,000 people have registered with authorities to sell their products at the Phacharat markets initiated by the government to help enhance local communities with emphasis on farmers and local enterprises.
Most of them, or about 47,000 people, were recorded in the Northeast.
The Pracharat market scheme is a scheme jointly organised by the Ministries of Commerce, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Industry, and other relevant agencies to bolster economy in local communities.
The first top three products, which local people want to sell at the Pracharat markets are farm products, ready-to-eat food and clothes.
About 20,000 applicants have no experience in selling goods, so they will be given training on marketing to help them increase sales.
