Samrong Nua police superintendent has suspended the work of police volunteers in tambon Samrong Nua of Samut Prakan’s Muang district after a motorcyclist died and a pillion rider injured allegedly from the volunteers’ operation.
Samrong Nua’s police volunteer identified as Thanatpol Tumpipat, 39, allegedly kicked the speeding motorcycle with the 25-year-old Tanakorn Sichart, and his girlfriend riding on it while the couple tried to make a turn to avoid a road checkpoint in Soi Sukhumvit 74 on Wednesday (April 25).
Tanakorn fell off his motorcycle with his head knocking the ground and was seriously injured. His girlfriend, Nattaya Kramsamrong, suffered injuries.
Both were immediately rushed to Samrong Nua hospital where Tanakorn was pronounced dead.
Samrong Nua police chief Pol Col Decho Sosuwanakul said he ordered all Samrong Nua police volunteers to stop working as an investigation was conducted to find out if the volunteer had overacted to stop the victim.
He said the road checkpoint on Soi Sukhumvit 74 was necessary as the route was frequently used by drug traffickers. The checkpoint was jointly manned by police officers and police volunteers.
He said he would ensure justice for all sides as investigation was proceeding over the incident.
Pol Col Decho said he always emphasized that police volunteers must perform their duties straightforwardly, and must not overact while assisting the police on duties.
