Police to summon Noppadol for questioning over Thung Yai Naresuan hunting scandal

The Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division police will summon Noppadol Phrueksawan, a retired park official for questioning after he was implicated advance person who facilitated Italian-Thai Development Plc top executive Premchai Karnasuta’s team to the Thung Yai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary.

The retired senior official of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation Mr Noppadol, former director of Protected Area’s Regional Office 6, was the person who sought permission for Mr Premchai and his three teammates to enter the wildlife sanctuary between Feb 2-4.

The summons came after Kanchana Nittaya, head of the Wildlife Conservation Office, disclosed on Friday (Feb 9) that Mr Noppodol asked her to help facilitate Mr Premchai’s party who wanted to enter the world heritage site for a nature-study trip.

Deputy commander of the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division Pol Col Tasaphum Jarupratch said the police would issue a summons to him for questioning on Feb 16.

He said so far the police have questioned 18 people as witnesses and evidence collected so far was substantial to file charges against Mr Premchai and three accomplices although they have denied the charges.

He said if the retired official did not show up, a second summons would be issued, before the arrest warrant would be issued.

Mr Noppadol is now serving as advisor for environment to Mr Premchai’s mega projects.
