Police arrest a narcotics for arms gang

The National Police Office today (Wednesday) announced the arrest of nine members for a narcotics for arms gang and the seizure of 10 assault rifles and 390,000 methamphatime tablets and three kilogrammes of Ice.

The national police chief, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, said that the gang smuggled the drugs from the North to be delivered to their clients in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district in exchange for assault rifles such as M16s and AK47.

He pointed out that this was the first case of drugs for arms ever cracked down by the police.

Pol Lt-Gen Raewat Klinkasorn, commissioner of Narcotics Suppression Bureau, claimed that police knew the identifies of the arms supplier.

Two of the arrested suspects, Prateep Soisap and Sangvarn Sarsanae used to be charged with attempted murder while the third, Somporn Watchang, was wanted for murder in Chon Buri.

Police alleged that the trio also worked as hired gunmen.
