Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is to present an unspecified amount of donations to Artiwara “Toon Bodyslam” Kongmalai at the Government House on Monday morning (Dec 4).
The runner on Sunday arrived at the rest stop at a PTT petrol station in Thawiwattana district of Bangkok where he was welcomed by Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwangmuang and the city executives as well as many of his fans.
Altogether about three million baht in public donations, including 1,119,111 baht donations from city officials, were presented to Toon and his running team.
Total donations until Sunday exceeded 400 million baht and the rocker still has to cover the other half of the distance to the destination in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.
Toon told the media that he was uncomfortable to be called a hero, saying that he was not a hero and the real heroes and heroines were the doctors and nurses who are working in hospitals to take care of the patients.
Toon will spend a night at the Pullman Hotel in Soi Rangnam and on Monday (Dec 4) is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the prime minister at the Government House before cabinet meeting.
Government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister had conveyed his well wishes to Toon and wished the runner succeed in fulfilling his dream of the 2,191-km charity run to raise up to 700 million baht in donations to be distributed to 11 state hospitals.
He further said that the prime minister had wanted Thai youth to follow Toon’s example in engaging in activities which are useful or beneficial to the society.
