PM orders probe in explosion last night

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the investigation into an explosion in front of the National Theatre last night which left two people with minor injuries to find the exact cause.

If it was an attempt to create a civil unrest, he ordered that they should be arrested and punished by law, according to Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd this morning.

He said the prime minister has designated the deputy prime minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan to probe into the incident and remedy the injured people.

The spokesman asked the people to stay in calm and cooperate with the Government.

If the people find anything unusual, they are requested to report authorities immediately, he said.

Earlier the commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said the explosion did not come from a bomb but just an explosion of a PVC pipe which accumulated heat and exploded.

There was no explosive substances at the scene, he said, dismissing speculation of a bomb explosion.
