PDRC spokesman enters monkhood

Akanat Promphan, former spokesman of the People's Democratic Reform Council (PDRC), entered monkhood Saturday in what he said was to make merits for those who died during the six-month old protest against the previous government.

The Buddhist robing ceremony was held at the Wat Cholapratan Rangsarit temple in Nonthaburi province.

The ceremony was attended by PDRC leader SuthepThaugsuban, Akanat’s mother Srisakul Promphan, Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, Bangkok governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra
and a large number of his supporters.

Akanat was later named “Brahmavangso” in Sanskrit language.

He will stay at the temple for two days before proceeding to Wat Pa Ampawan temple in Ban Bung district of Chonburi province for a 13-day retreat before leaving the monkhood.
