Election Commission chairman Supachai Somcharoen said Friday that all the five election commissioners, including himself, would have their terms terminated as proposed by an extraordinary panel of the National Legislative Assembly.
The NLA is due on June 9 to vote on the panel’s proposal.
Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said once the NLA had resolved on the proposal, the Constitutional Court and other independent organizations would be informed of the NLA’s resolution.
But the EC chairman insisted that the commission had the right to challenge the NLA’s resolution within ten days after the resolution was endorsed if they deemed the proposal was not in line with the will of the B.E. 2560 Constitution.
Commissioner Boonsong Noisophon said he was ready to follow the NLA’s resolution endorsing the proposal which does not only mean the end of their term in the office and that they cannot apply for candidacy of the new EC.
