Pakbeng-Ngeune Mekong River Bridge to ensure link with ASEAN

Pakbeng-Ngeune Mekong Bridge of which the construction is over 50 per cent complete is expected to be fully complete by March 2015, according to Lao News Agency.

This bridge spans the Mekong River between Pakbeng district in Oudomxay Province and Ngeun district of Xayabouly Province.

The over-247-billion kip bridge is designed to link national Road No 2 W with 2 E.

Upon completion, the bridge will provide more facilities for goods transportation between the two provinces and other northern neighbours as well as connects neighboring countries including Thailand, Vietnam and China.

Head of Pakbeng Mekong River Bridge Construction Project under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, MrNolasackSisouphanh said that: “Pakbeng Mekong River Bridge Project is a bridge links between national roads No 2W and 2 E, which will help facilitate investment, trade and service.”

 

“The construction work is now completed by 52% since the beginning of construction in December 2012. Upon its completion, the bridge will be 700 m long and 13 m wide. It is expected to be fully complete as scheduled or by March 2015,” he said.

The funding for the bridge construction includes a loan from the EXIM Bank of China (95% of total investment), and the Lao government (5%).
