Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has submitted written clarification on the acquisition of luxury watch and diamond ring to the National Anti-Corruption Commission, NACC president Pol Gen Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit told reporters on Friday (Dec 29).
Pol Get Watcharapol said NACC secretary-general Worawit Sukboon informed the NACC board at the meeting on Thursday that Gen Prawit had already submitted the clarification to the NACC office.
The clarification document is being examined by the NACC office, he said.
The NACC on Dec 7 sent a letter to Gen Prawit, demanding him to explain his two items of accessory–a diamond ring and an expensive wristwatch–that he was seen wearing during a photo shoot of new cabinet lineup at the Government House on Dec 4.
The two luxury items were not declared when he assumed the office three years ago.
Gen Prawit’s wristwatch which was described by watch experts as a Richard Mille timepiece–a brandname wristwatch for the rich and fabulous with a starting price of one million baht up to more than 60 million baht.
NACC secretary-general, Mr Worawit, said the NACC office received the clarification letter on Wednesday (Dec 27).
He said the examination of the clarification was expecting to finish after the long New Year holidays.
He said in the letter, Gen Prawit has cited a third-party person but he declined to elaborate neither the identity nor how many luxury wristwatches he obtained.
Over the past weeks, CSI LA Facebook page revealed photographs of Gen Prawit wearing at least 11 different luxury wristwatches in different occasions.
The latest picture shows Sen Prawit wore a two-colour Rolex Cosmograph Daytona worth 550,000 baht, according to CSI LA Facebook page.
It said the photograph was taken by Matichon news website while Gen Prawit was chairing a meeting to discuss migrant workers issue on Jan 16 this year.
