Metropolitan police chief says Thanom fired at gunman

Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Kamronvit Thoopkrachang said  FIFA assistant referee Thanom Borikut  drew out his pistol to return fire with his assailants.

He said that an eyewitness who is a guard told police investigators that he saw Thanom drew out his pistol to fire back at his assailants while trying to flee from the following gunman on a motorcycle.

This merely indicated that the referee knew exactly of the attempted murder and therefore prompted him to carry a gun all the time, he said.

He said a meeting with all police investigators would be called tomorrow to discuss all the motives in  the gun attack, including a case in which the referee was alleged to be responsible for the bombing in Saraburi province which killed a C-9 educational  teacher four years ago.
