Khru Lop was first admitted into Bang Po hospital on October 17 for treatment of lung infection, but blood tests of a big tumor in the liver showed that the tumor was 75 percent cancerous.
However, doctors at the hospital opted to treat lung infection as priority until the condition stabilized. The family later took him to Chulabhorn Research Centre Hospital for further treatment and it was discovered he was afflicted with recurring lung infection, resulting in difficulty in breathing.
Although conscious, Khru Lop was hospitalized in intensive care until until Saturday night when he died peacefully.
Khru Lop earned the reputation of being a legend in Loong Thung or folk song composer for having written more than 2,000 folk songs, including several songs composed for the late Loong Thung Deva Poompuang Duangchan.
He had received many song-writing awards and in 2005 was named national artist for perform art (song writing).
