Korat police chief axed for allowing improper roadblocks to be set up

Nakhon Ratchasima provincial police chief and superintendent of Muang district police were to inactive posts at the special operations centre of Third Region Provincial Police Bureau effective as of March 11 for improperly setting up roadblocks allegedly to make ill-gotten gains from motorists.

Pol Lt-Gen Pisant Chuladilok, commissioner of Third Region Provincial Police Bureau, said today that the two officers, Pol Maj-Gen Thakoon Nattheesri and Pol Col Patiyuth Singsomroj defied the National Police Office’s policy by improperly setting up roadblocks in the Muang district.

He explained that it appeared that the intention of setting up the roadblocks by the two officers was not to ensure security for the benefit of the public but intended to issue excessively traffic tickets with the hope of getting a lion’s share of the fines.

Pol Lt-Gen Pisant disclosed that he personally made a field inspection on Ratchasima-Chokechai road in Tambon Hua Thaley, Muang district, and found out that there was no police officer responsible for the roadblocks which were set up there and, also, there was no phone number of any police officer for contact.

Also, the superintendent of Pakthongchai district police, Pol Col Kampanart Thatuchirangkoon, was also transferred to Chaiyaphum provincial police command because he was not at the police station during the sudden visit there by Pol Lt-Gen Pisant.

It was discovered from the smart phone record that the police colonel was in a neighbouring country.
