Investigation on Dr Yorn’s hit-and-run case not yet concluded

The investigation into a hit-and-run case involving Dr Yorn Chiranakhon, a senior official of Health Centre Region 12 overseeing the South, has not been completed, said Dr Nathawut Prasertsiripong, a Public Health Ministry inspector who chairs the fact-finding committee.

Dr Yorn is accused of being drunk when he allegedly rammed his car into Somchai Yamdee, a 22-year-old security guard who was closing the gate at the Public Health Ministry in Nonthaburi on Nov 10.

Dr Nathawut said the committee has not reached a conclusion as its members hold different opinions over whether Dr Yorn was drunk and why he refused to undergo an alcohol test.

The committee initially aimed to conclude the investigation in December.  But, with this problem, he expected the committee would be able to reach a conclusion in January.

Dr Nathawut insisted that the investigation has been fair and transparent.

The investigation result will be used in a separate disciplinary investigation on Dr Yorn, he said.

Police conducted simulation of the accident at the Public Health Ministry on Nov 15.
