“Ice” drugs worth over B100m seized in Hat Yai

Police yesterday (Feb 9) arrested a drug suspect and seized 123 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine or “Ice” drugs worth over 100 million baht in Songkhla province.

Combined police forces from the Crime Suppression Division, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau and local police raided the worker camp in Sadao district after investigation found that a suspect in connection with the smuggling of 95kg of Ice seized at a motel in Satun’s Kuan Kalong district on Feb 6 was hiding at the camp.

The drug suspect was identified as Paisarn Thongthammachat, a resident of Kuan Kalong district.

Police said Mr Paisarn admitted to have been paid 100,000 baht by a trafficker known only as “Wa” to smuggle 200kg of Ice contained in six travel bags from a hotel room in Hat Yai district to Satun and other destinations.

He said he first kept the drugs at a rented room in Hat Yai and then transported the first batch of 95kg of Ice to Satun and hid them at a motel room in Kuan Kalong district.

The drug was seized by police on Feb 6 while he managed to escape and stayed at the worker camp in Sadao district before the arrest.

Mr Paisarn was later escorted by police to his rented room in Tambon Kho Hong of Hat Yai district where three travel bags with 123 kg of Ice were found.

Police said they were expanding the investigation to find out the major dealer of the huge 200kg Ice cache.
