One of the three hunters wanted by the police for allegedly killing a gaur at Ang Rue Nai wildlife sanctuary in Chanthaburi’s Kaeng Hang Maew district last week has been arrested.
The suspect, 24-year old Rungroj Pokham, was presented at a press conference held at Chanthaburi provincial hall by governor Witoorat Srinam.
Police also seized from Rungroj’s possession one shotgun and three bags used to contain the gaur meat.
Rungroj told the media that he decided to turn himself in to the police because he could no longer stand the pressure exerted by the police. He allegedly admitted that he used his own shotgun to shoot the gaur because he wanted its meat for food.
He told the police that his two accomplices were Cambodians, one of them identified as Dum.
He was charged with illegal hunting in wildlife sanctuary, illegal possession of firearms and carrying a gun in public without proper reason.
The gaur weighs between 300-400 kilogrammes.
