Hunt ongoing after two officers and sniffer dog died in explosion

Combined force of police and soldiers have heighted security at a trade fair in Ra-ngae district of Narathiwat and checking of surveillance cameras at the vicinities for clues to hunt down the Muslim insurgents responsible for the bomb explosion that killed two police officer and a sniffer dog.

Police said the explosion yesterday killed Pol Sgt Praphan Chomkokkruad and his sniffer dog “Bird” and another officer as they passed near a parked motorcycle where a 15-kg bomb was placed near a concrete wall. Six other policemen were also injured.

Police said that the dog who they named it “Bird” because it was an old dog and has been working in sniffing explosives for four years. It was loved by all the police working in the area.
