Hole punched through cave wall to reach underground water channel

Workers have punched a hole through the cave wall near the cave entrance after they discovered an underground water channel.

A truck equipped with a drilling machine was brought to the cave entrance after officials of the Mineral Resources Department explored new ways to drain water out of the cave in addition to the use of water pumps installed inside the cave which has proven to be unable to cope with the huge amount of water in the cave due to heavy rains Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

The truck reportedly started punching a hole through the cave wall about 15 metres from the cave entrance where an underground water well or an underground water channel was expected.

The drilling machine successfully struck the underground water channel and officials hope that this would help speed up the draining of water out of the cave.
