Home Box Office (HBO), an American cable and satellite television network, has named Thai boxer Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, the current WBC super flyweight champion, Fighter of the Year 2017.
Srisaket, also known as Srisaket Nakkornloung Promotion, is currently World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight reigning champion, who knocked out Roman Gonzalez on Sept 10 in a rematch.
He was given a score of 6 by the HBO, beating Andre Ward, who was scored 4.
Other HBO boxing stars who each got a score of 1 are Danny Jacobs, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Anthony Joshua.
Srisaket is the first Thai boxer who has been honoured by the HBO, which broadcast live matches of only world-class boxers such as Muhamad Ali, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Srisaket was earlier named by RealSport, a well-known sports website, as Fighter of the Year 2017. He also stands to clinch four other awards of the WBC for best boxer of the year, best knockout, best boxing rematch and best fight of the year.
