Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has, of late, become the talk of the town – not because of his unwavering position on political ban, but for the small decorative wristwatch which was unintentionally shown to the public in a group photo of new cabinet lineup taken on December 4.
Eagle-eyed wristwatch veterans identified General Prawit’s wristwatch as a Richard Mille – the Swiss-made timepiece for the fabulous and super rich. Among the celebrities who were publicly seen wearing this super-expensive timepiece are tennis ace Rafael Nadal, Hong Kong super star Jackie Chan, Hollywood actress Natalie Portman and singer Ed Sheeran.
It was not known how much General Prawit’s Richard Mille wristwatch costs. But the prices of this hand-made timepiece range from $80,000 up to $2 million for the limited edition of Tourbillion RM 56.02 model.
Reporters said that General Prawit’s Richard Mille was not included in the list of assets and liabilities he declared with the National Anti-Corruption Committee when he joined the cabinet three years ago.
Like it or not, it appears that the deputy prime minister has become a brand ambassador of Richard Mille timepieces in Thailand.
Meanwhile, NACC acting secretary-general Worawit Sookboon said that, by law, the National Anti-Corruption Commission was empowered to look into this issue even without anyone lodging a complaint with the commission.
While insisting that wristwatch in question was just a press report, he said he would raise it up with the NACC on Thursday.
