The criminal case against Mr Worawee was initiated by Mr Nathapon Panyakananukul, chairman of Pattaya football club, challenging the legality of the FAT presidential election on October 17, 2013, on the ground that the election document was falsified.
The Criminal Court found the charge substantiated and handed over two-year jailterm on Mr Worawee plus a 6,000 baht in fine. The imprisonment was reduced to one year and four months which was suspended and the fine slashed to 4,000 baht.
The Appeals Court, however, overturned the Criminal Court’s conviction verdict on the ground that if the election regulation was not amended, election of FAT president would not have been possible.
Worawee’s lawyer, Mr Naringpong Jinapak, said he would inform FIFA of the court’s acquittal of Mr Worawee because the former FAT president was banned by FIFA for five years and fined 360,000 baht.
He assured that Mr Worawee had no intention whatsoever to return to the FAT.
