Five wounded in Narathiwat ambush

Four soldiers and a female villager were injured in an ambush by suspected separatist militants in Sisakhon district of Narathiwat province on Tuesday (Dec 26).

The incident occurred before noon on Dahong-Bilo road in Tambon Choeng Khiri of Sisakhon district.

While a pick-up truck was travelling on the road, taking five soldiers of Rangers Company 4912 to Sisakhon market to buy food supplies, it was ambushed by a group of gunmen hiding on both sides of the road who opened fire at the soldiers with M16 rifles.

Four soldiers were wounded in the ambush. They are Sgt Thanakorn Tannisai, Sgt Wissanu Muesanthad, volunteer ranger Kamjorn Tanma, and volunteer ranger Wissanu Chamnanna.

A female villager, Tuwae-a-aeso Talipo, who was walking past the spot was also hit and wounded by a stray bullet.

All of the wounded were admitted to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital for treatment.
