Five masked robbers escape with 196 million yen from a condo’s parking lot

Five robbers, all covered their faces with ski masks, robbed two men of about 196 million yen or 60 million baht at the parking lot of a condominium in Ratchadaphisek on Monday night.

The robbery was reported to Phaholyothin police by Mr Pattharit Taerattanachai, a jewelry trader who claimed that he asked two friends to bring his money, about 196 million yen, to be kept in his room at Ratchada Pavillion Condominium.

When his two friends parked their car on the 5th floor of the condominium’s parking lot, five men wearing ski masks, rushed upon them, beat them up and took away the bags containing the cash along with the victims’ pickup truck.

Pol Lt-Gen Charnthep Sesavech, an acting commissioner of metropolitan police, said that the case was straightforward and was not complicated because only a handful of people knew about the money to be kept at the condominium.

Meanwhile, police have sought cooperation from money exchange shops and banks to keep watch for customers who want to exchange a large sum of Japanese currency.
