DSI starts cutting internet and phone signals in and around Wat Dhammakaya

The Department of Special Investigation has started cutting off mobile telephone and internet signals in and around Wat Dhammakaya to put an end to the dissemination of false and distorted information among temple’s followers.

DSI director-general Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang admitted on Friday that the DSI had coordinated with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission after it was proven that some faithful followers had used social media to spread false and distorted news which are deemed an obstruction to work of officials or incitement of violence.

He said internet and phone signals would be partially cut off on step by step fashion as part of the measures to keep the temple as a “controlled zone” as ordered in accordance with Section 44 of the interim constitution.
