Malaysia’s former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will meet the jailed PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – three days after being named Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister’s candidate and chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, according to the New Straits Times Malaysia Online on Wednesday.
Dr Mahathir will on Thursday visit his one-time deputy prime minister at the Cheras Rehabilitation hospital where he is currently recuperating after suffering an injury in November.
Speculation is rife that the two for foes may try to smoothen things between them after Mahathir has come under criticism from PKR members who objected to his nomination as PM’s candidate and others who despise his previous political track records.
Selangor PKR had earlier objected to his nomination as PM candidate should the opposition pact win the forthcoming election.
PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has insisted that Dr M only be appointed senior minister.
Pakatan Harapan leaders have been criticized for choosing their once sworn enemy as prime ministerial candidate.
