Five female construction workers died when a partly built building collapsed and fell on them yesterday in southern Krabi province.

The incident happened at a construction site at the Institute of Physical Education – Krabi Campus located in Muang district of Krabi province.

Alerted by witnesses, rescue workers and emergency unit rushed to the scene and used water to spray onto the ready mix cement to prevent it from hardening and used a backhoe to move debris from the site to enable them to find the missing victims trapped in a building collapse

After two hours of searching, they found five bodies under the debris of wet cement and concrete fragments.

The victims are Jitranon Saikaew, Kathleeya Jandeewan, Yad Godon, Warin Rachabutr, and Linthong Promsuwan. All are Thai nationals.

Police suspected the collapse might be from either undried cement flooring or the weakened supportive poles.

Construction of the three storey gym building started on July 30, 2015 and was due to be complete by July 8 2017, under the budget of 100 million baht, with the construction period of 710 days.
