Thousands damsel fish (salid hin) were found dead on the beach in Tambon Map Tapud, Rayong Muang district on Tuesday.

Fishermen at Ao Pradu reported that the dead fish were washed ashore along the beach extending about two kilometers long. They said that the dead fish phenomenon happened every year for the past five years and still they don’t know the real cause of the death of so many fish which were washed ashore.

Fishery officials and officials from Map Tapud industrial estate collected samples of the dead fish to be sent to a lab at the marine research centre in Chon Buri for tests in order to determine the cause of the death.

As for the rest of the dead damsel fish, fishermen in the area have helped in the collection of the dead fish to be disposed of by burial.
