Predawn shower floods Bangkok, causes heavy traffic jams

Predawn rains  heavily lashed Bangkok and adjacent provinces today, inundating many roads in the capital's inner and outer zones, and bringing early morning's traffic to a standstill.

The Department of Drainage and Sewerage of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said the predawn rains  lashed almost all parts of Bangkok with heaviest rain was reported at Bang Na where rain level was measured at 67.5 mm.

It caused floodings on several roads, particularly Sukhumvit from Soi 71 to Soi Bearing where 200 metres section was submerged.

The Theparak road to Samrong and Phraeksa in Samut Prakarn province was reported under 20-30 centimetres of flood water.

In the inner zone of Bangkok, rain flooded Rama IV near Klong Toey market, Srinakharinwirot road,  Lardprao-Wanghin road.

Several trees were also uprooted and blocked traffic on many roads.

Several schools were also closed due to unexpected floods in Samut Prakarn, particularly Assumption Samut Prakarn.

Traffic Police Division reported heavy traffic jams and traffic accidents due to heavy rains today.

Traffic jams were reported  on Srinakharin road from Samut Prakarn to Bangkok, New Road from Tanon Tok to  Chan road, Uttaraphimuk tollway, Phaholyothin from Bang Khen to Bang Bua, to Kaset intersection, Ratprarob from Pratunam to Makkasan, Ratchadspisek from Ratchayothin to  Ratchada-Lardprao, and Rama 3.
