Chon Buri and Nonthaburi governors moved to PM’s Office

The cabinet on Tuesday (Nov 7) turned down the Interior Ministry’s proposal to transfer Chon Buri Governor Pakarathorn Thienchai and Nonthaburi Governor Panu Yamsri to Samut Prakan and Nakhon Sawan respectively.

The cabinet’s rejection of the Interior Ministry’s proposal prompted Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda to seek special powers from the prime minister to move the two governors “to assist work” in the Prime Minister’s Office without losing their governorship posts in Chon Buri and Nonthaburi.

While Mr Pakarathorn and Mr Panu are working at the PM’s Office, the deputy governors will act in their capacities until further instruction from the Interior Ministry.

When asked about the cabinet’s decision, Gen Anupong said that the changes are a matter of suitability and the two governors will be at the PM’s Office for an indefinite period of time.

“This should be the best way out because we have to listen to the voices of the people and the duty of the officials is to serve the people,” said the minister.

Chon Buri Governor Pakarathorn was in the hot seat after residents in the province demanded his removal, accusing him of mishandling the sandalwood flower-laying ceremony on Oct 26 and not properly treating the mourners who are civilians.
