Charter court dismisses draft dodging case against Abhisit

The Constitution Court has dismissed a petition against Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva contesting his parliamentary status following his dismissal from the army.

The petition was lodged with the court by the House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont asking the court to determine whether Mr Abhisit still retains his parliamentary status as an MP or not after the Defence Ministry fired him from the service for draft dodging.

The court ruled that since the House was already dissolved by virtue of a Royal decree since December 9, Mr Abhisit had already lost his parliamentary status and, therefore, there was no point for the court to consider the case.
