The cabinet on Tuesday approved the 23.6-km long Purple Line train project between Taopoon and Ratburana and it is expected that bidding for the 101 billion baht can be held in October, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith disclosed on Tuesday.
He expected contract signing with the selected constructor in May next year after the completion and endorsement of the environment impacts assessment study so that construction can commence within the set time frame which is at the end of next year.
Construction will take about six years after which the Purple Line train will become operational around May in 2024, said Mr Arkhom, adding that he is confident that this project will be successful as it responds to the need of the people and it will become a main route of travelling connecting Bangkok with its peripherals along the Nonthaburi-Bangkok-Samut Prakan route.
The Purple Line train is estimated to cater to 477,098 passengers per day.
Minister Arkhom said that the 101-billion-baht estimated construction cost had already been adjusted down by 2.8 billion baht after the maintenance depot was scaled down.
The overall estimated cost of the project was divided into 15,945 million baht for the cost of land reclamation, 77,385 million baht in civil construction cost, 2,865 million baht in consultancy fees, 1,335 million baht in compensation for agencies affected by the project and 3,582 million baht in provisional sum.
The transport minister said the project’s Economic Internal Rate of Return was estimated at 12.95 percent while Financial Internal Rate of Return was estimated at 4.59 percent.
The Purple Line will link up with Blue Line at Taopoon and Wang Burapha stations, with the Orange Line at Democracy station on Rajdamnoen Avenue, with the Green Line at Wongwian Yai.
The Purple Line is 23.6 km long with 12.6 km line underground and 11 km line elevated. It has altogether 17 stations with 10 underground and the rest above ground. There are two park and ride facilities – one in Bang Pakok and the other in Ratburana which can accommodate 1,640 and 1,359 cars respectively.
Mr Arkhom further said that there are still four more train projects that are yet to be approved by the cabinet.
They are the 16.4-km western Orange Line between the National Cultural Centre and Talingchan estimated at 121 billion baht; 8-km Blue Line extension between Bangkhae and Putthamonthon 4 estimated to cost 21 billion baht; Green Line extension between Samut Prakan and Bang Poo estimated to cost 13.7 billion baht and the northern Green Line extension between Khu Kot and Lam Lookka estimated to cost 11.9 billion baht.
