Buddhism Office proposes appointment of new abbot of Dhammakaya temple

The National Office of Buddhism has proposed the Pathumthani provincial Sangha ecclesiastical council to appoint the new abbot of the Dhammakaya temple with request that he must be from other temple.

The proposal to Phra Theprattanasuthi, the head of the Pathumthani provincial ecclesiastical council, was made by the director of the national office Pol Lt Col Pongporn Pramsaneh yesterday.

In his proposal, he asked Phra Theprattanasuthi to appoint the new abbot of Wat Dhammakaya under Announcement 24 of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand with a request that he considers monk from other temple, not from Dhammakaya, be appointed.

But Phra Theprattanasuthi has earlier indicated that the new abbot of Dhammakaya should be selected from the monks of the temple who is most respected and acceptable by all monks of the temple.
