Brunei roads to close for ASEAN Summit

Several main roads in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, will be temporarily closed to the public during the 23rd ASEAN Summit and other related summits on October 9 and 10, The Brunei Times reported.

Acting Director of Investigations and Traffic Control, Superintendent Hj Md Hassan Pehin Penyurat Hj Ahmad of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) during a press conference yesterday said the closure was to ensure safety and smooth travel for the leaders of ASEAN countries and their dialogue partners from their places of accommodation to the summit venue, International Convention Centre (ICC).

The road closure on October 9 will begin 9am to 10am and it will also be closed from 7pm to 8.30pm. Meanwhile, roads will be closed from 8.45am to 9.45am the following day.

The eight main roads affected are: parts of the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, Muara-Tutong Highway, Tungku Highway, Menteri Besar road, Perdana Menteri road, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha road, Hj Basir road and a part of the Kambang Pasang road. However, some roads near the vicinity of the meetings will remain closed the whole duration of the summits. These roads are the Stadium road (Jalan Stadium), from the Perdana Menteri road junction up until the Islamic Da’wah Centre roundabout as well as the Pusat Persidangan road until the Commonwealth Drive road.

Motorists are to make use of alternative routes instead.
