Two suspects in the torching of a Betong-Bangkok bus last week in Bannang Sata district of Yala province were arrested yesterday (Dec 18).
According to the police, one suspect is a local people who is doing small bottle oil business near the scene where a dozen of armed men commandeered the bus, chased all 16 passengers on board out, and set the bus on fire.
The armed men told paasengers to leave the bus and they would not harm them.
Police said another suspect is a woman who was seen by witnesses of bringing clothes for the armed men to wear.
Police said they now believed the arson attack on the bus was irrelevant to insurgency, but conflict of interest in the bus service on this Highway 410 route.
Internal security authorities are now questioning both suspects in their effort to hunt down all the armed men.
Earlier Fourth Army Region commander Lt Gen Piyawat Nakwanich indicated business conflict is a probable cause for the torching of the bus.
